Our latest animation shares a parent’s experience of staying in a Mother and Baby Unit during a period of significant mental health difficulty.

It shows what day‑to‑day life in an MBU can look like, and how these specialist units support recovery while helping parents stay close to their babies.

In the animation, we follow a mother who describes arriving at the unit when she was struggling with her thoughts, feelings, and wellbeing. The animation highlights the wide range of staff involved in MBU care including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, nursery nurses, and peer support workers and how they work together to provide round‑the‑clock support without pressure. It also shows how families can visit when the parent feels ready, and how personalised care plans are developed from the moment someone arrives.

By the end of her stay, the mother feels well enough to return home, supported by ongoing perinatal services in the community.
